The first year in our home…

Thanks for visiting! I created this a few months ago and have just sat down tonight to actually post something. I think because I am so scattered with every aspect of thought, I could never decide what to talk (type) about; therefore, I just left it alone. What a great idea. No, not really. Anyway, this month marks one year as a homeowner. Crazy! Time absolutely flies by. It also marks one month after I turned 30, but we aren’t going to talk about that.

Over my life, it has become clear that I do not know the meaning of sitting still. Growing up, my sister and I would watch our dad do the same. Between building furniture, painting, teaching AP Physics and computer classes, coaching, gardening, making games, teaching us how to make jelly or crayons, creating a dark room in our basement, there was little time for sleep. Well, I’m hoping this is the reason for my lack of sleep and there isn’t something wrong with me!

Buying my own home (with my patient and understanding boyfriend, of course) was the best move I have ever made. I can’t imagine being cooped up in a small apartment at this point in my life. Don’t get me wrong, this is no mansion, but it gives me the freedom of ripping down wallpaper, painting every wall, ripping up a rug, decorating more than just one room, starting my first garden, and having a beast of a dog like my basset hound, Cannoli.

I’m not building furniture, yet. Keyword, YET. But, I am always sure to have some kind of project, big or small, going on. One of my faves is an oval frame I picked up at the Brimfield Fair. I simply painted it white, slapped some great fabric onto a cardboard backing and hung our first initals from it with thin ribbon.

Painted wooden frame from antique show with added fabric and painted first name initials.

It’s the little things, people. The little things. Of course I find many things out in the retail world that I like, but would prefer to attempt making something I know I like. Anyday. And might I add, for a fraction of the cost. Create something of your own and love every minute of it…
